Project Selection-My Decision

I decided to do the film project because I think it is the best fit for me.  Since I think I would do well at picking the right people for the characters and I would do well at editing. I also think I would keep doing takes until I get the perfect cut for each scene in the film. I will be working on the film with Kara Ashby. Kara is good at creative writing and has written scripts for projects in the past. The genre of the film might be comedy or horror. Comedic film appeals to us because it would be directed to a wider audience and will have more of a happy atmosphere than the horror film. On the other hand if we did a horror film we would be able to use jump scares and allow us to explore more with editing.

In class I learned how much work and process it take to make a film. It starts with having to choose the right actors for the parts and making sure the actors' chemistry is believable.  You have to film scenes from multiple angles until you get just the right look and feel. In Inside Story: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, it showed how they had to edit a lot of the movie in order to shorten it. If your film goes over time you have to be able to realize what is not that important and needed for the film to make sense.  For example from the Inside Story: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, it shows how they cut out Ferris' two younger siblings because they were not needed to understand what was going on. I think the film project would be a good fit because I can edit and pick the right people to play characters. A challenge for me might be editing the film to the two minute time frame and making sure the idea of the film is fully expressed.

Project Selection-Magazine

I have learned in class that print journalism is a lot more than telling a story. It can be a persuasive article, a take down piece, fake news or most importantly real news. I have also learned that print journalism takes a lot of work. In All the President's Men and Newsroom you can see that it takes a lot of work to get information from someone, especially good facts that help prove your point. You have to interview people and ask the right questions in order to get the answer you want. Interviews are extremely important in journalism in order to get evidence that supports the point you are trying to make. For that reason, I think I would have a difficult time with interviewing people since I am a shy person. However I would enjoy print journalisms if I was telling stories about only my person experiences.
