Film Genre Research- Scream
Scream is a horror film that came out in 1996. The film starts off with the phone ringing and a teenage girl answering the phone to a creepy voice. The dialogue is her telling him he has the wrong phone number and hangs up. The unknown caller then calls again, saying he wants to talk to her for a second and she hangs up again. Then there is an insert titled shot of the house and atmospheric sound of crickets chirping. The anonymous caller calls again asking why she does not what to talk to him and asks what her name is. The teenage girl asks why he wants to know her name and the anonymous caller replied with saying he wants to know who is looking at. She asks him to repeat what he said and he changes his response. Incidental music starts to play which helps create a feeling of suspense. The teenager then says she has to go and the anonymous caller angrily tells her not to hang up on him. The girl starts running around the house to lock the doors. He calls again and she says she is about to call the police and he replies saying they would never make it to her house in time. The film Scream had a budget of 15 million dollars. Scream made over 100 million dollars at the domestic box office. Scream won many awards including Best Writer(Kevin Williamson), Best Horror Film, and Best Actress(Neve Campbell).
